Fire guts offices of Ghana Immigration Service at Elubo

Some offices belonging to the Ghana Immigration Service at Elubo border in the Jomoro Municipality of the Western Region have been destroyed by fire.

The incident occurred on Sunday, March 22, 2020, between the hours of 10 pm and 11 pm.

Briefing GhanaWeb after the fire, Sophia Kaku said around 10:45 pm "Our light started going on and off for three times and on the third time the light went off completely and within ten minutes time we saw smoke coming from our server that is our switch and when we saw the fire we quickly moved to the place and when got there then the fire catches and we quickly called the Fire Service and in fact when we called them they responded to our call and they came to help", she narrated.

She disclosed that the 2IC and information office were destroyed by the fire. She, however, commended the personnel of the Ghana Fire Service branch at Elubo for managing to quench the fire from destroying their Arrival Counter and Departure.

"The fire affected our staff office where our 2IC stay, this is where we keep all our information. Most of our information have been destroyed", she stated.

She added that "The Fire Service Personnel were able to put-off the fire which was burning our Arrival Counter and Departure but unfortunately our Narcotic office was burnt".

On his part, the Elubo Fire Service Officer, Mr Daud Nuhu revealed that they were able to bring the fire under control within fifteen minutes.

"Yesterday around 10:30 pm, we had a running call at Elubo Fire Service Station that there was fire outbreak at Elubo border so within two minutes we got to the scene and when we got to the scene we saw that Administration and 2IC office burning so we managed to bring the fire under control. We use just 15 minutes to extinguish the fire," he narrated to GhanaWeb.

Mr. Nuhu said the cause of the fire is under investigation but attributed the fire to an electrical fault.

He also urged Ghanaians to be careful in this period of Coronavirus outbreak not to put on their electrical gadgets and go out.



Items damaged

These are some of the items that were destroyed by the fire; three air conditioners, two flat screens, two decoders, printers, U.P.S, servers, tables and chairs among others.

According to the Elubo Immigration Service, all their important documents were totally burnt into ashes.
