Government reiterates resolve to tackle rising spate of armed robbery

Vice President Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia has given the assurance that government is doing all it can, to provide the security services with adequate resources to fight the alarming spate of armed robbery in the country.

He said the peace and security of the country which is an envy in the Sub region cannot be compromised by a few unscrupulous people.

Vice President Bawumia made these remarks when he joined Muslim faithful at the Abossey Okai Central Mosque to give thanks to Allah as part of activities to mark Ghana's 61st Independence Day Anniversary.

Over the last few days, Ghanaians have woken up to the news of incessant armed robbery in various parts of the country especially in the capital. This situation has raised questions about the country's security.

Joining Muslim faithful at the Abossey Okai Centarl Mosque for the Friday Prayers, Vice President Bawumia re-affirmed government's commitment to fight crime.

Expressing concern about the increasing armed robbery in the country, Vice President Bawumia said government will equip the security services to enable them to nip the problem in the bud.

He said 61 years on, Ghana cannot afford to lose its peaceful environment.

He entreated Ghanaians to remain calm as government works around the clock to maintain peace and order.

The Vice President was accompanied by the Minister for Inner City and Zongo Developmpent, Boniface Saddique Abubarkar and other dignitaries.

The Chief Imam, Sheik Nuhu Sharabutu who lead the faithful to pray for the nation urged Ghanaians especially Muslims to respect the views of other religious bodies as this will promote peaceful co- existence.

He said in all circumstances, it is important to appreciate the Almighty Allah for His continuous blessings and protection.

Sheik Nuhu Sharubutu called on the public to pray for the President, Vice President and all government officials for God's blessings and guidance.
