Interior Ministry relaxes Bunkprugu curfew

The Interior Ministry has reviewed curfew hours on conflict hotspot, Bunkprugu the Northern Region, from 8pm to 4am.

The new curfew hours starts from Tuesday April 26, 2016, a statement from the Ministry said.

Prevailing curfew hours are between 8pm to 6am.

“Government continues to urge chiefs and opinion Youth and People of the area to exercise restraint in the face of the challenges confronting them and to use non-violent means to channel their energies into ensuring peace in the area,” said the statement signed by James Agalga, Deputy Interior Minister for the substatitive Minister, Prosper Bani.

A total ban on all persons in the Bunkpurugu Township and surrounding areas from carrying arms, ammunition or any offensive weapon remains in place, said the statement released Thursday.

“Any person found with any arms or ammunition would be arrested and prosecuted”.

Bunkprugu has been embroiled in an unrelenting chieftaincy conflict for decades.

In January this year, factional gun battle claimed the lives of two people and destroyed properties.
