Donkro-Nkwanta (B/A), Dec. 31, GNA - Nana Atakora Amaniampong, Krontihene of Donkro-Nkwanta in the Nkoranza District of the Brong-Ahafo Region has called on his people to forge together in unity with a common front to collectively initiate projects programmes for the development of their area.The Krontihene said this in an address to his people after a special cross-country competition organised for the youth as part of Christmas activities aimed entertaining the people and also to bring the people together to prepare for the progress of the area.
He stressed on the need for the people to bury their political differences and avoid petty squabbles since he said such practices could put them into factions that would divide their ranks. Nana Amaniampong commended Mr. Kwaku Addae Asah and his wife, Mrs. Dora Addae Asah, both citizens of the area now based in Germany for sponsoring the competition.
He also praised the local Assemblyman, Mr. Isaac Ofosu for his leadership role that ensured mobilization of the people to undertake communal labour and development programmes and urged him to maintain that spirit as the country enters the near year.
The queen-mother of the area, Nana Adwoa Boagyei called on women to accord their husbands the needed respect and support them in the maintenance of the home and in the upkeep of their children. Nana Boagyei deplored the poor standard of female education in the area and advised parents to invest adequately in the education of their wards more especially the girl-child to reverse the downward trend of female education.
"The youth should also desist from drunkenness and pre-marital sexual practices to avoid contracting the dreadful HIV/AIDS disease. In the competition, Mr. Kwaku Wolebe (rpt Mr. Kwaku Wolebe) placed first in the men's division followed by Mr. Kwaku Owusu (alias "Taller") with Mr. Kwaku Adjei taking the third position.
In the women's race, Miss Doris Adua came first with Miss Dorcas Adua and Miss Vivian Owusu chalking the second and third positions. The first competitor in each division was presented a cash prize of 100,000 cedis and a fowl, the second received 50,000 cedis and a wall-clock and the third 30,000 cedis and a wall-clock.
