The three boys arrested for gang-raping a teenage girl at Bantama in Kumasi, the Ashanti Regional capital, were arraigned before the Asokwa District Court yesterday.

The three teenagers (names withheld) converged on the chamber of Magistrate Peter Oppong Brenya for the hearing of the case.

However, the case could not be heard as planned because some key people were not present in court.

The court indicated that since the case involves juveniles, there was the need for some people to be present before the hearing begins.

For instance, a staff from the Social Welfare Department, a policeman in plain cloth and a family member or guardian of the suspects, should have been present.

According to the court, some of the people mentioned were absent in court and therefore the case was adjourned to today.

The three boys, who are still in police custody, were then whisked away in a waiting police vehicle parked at the entrance of the court.

Some relatives of the suspects were at the court to show support, but the victim and her relatives were absent.

Gang-Rape Incident

The three suspects were among seven boys who were seen on a video footage gang-raping a teenage girl.

The video, which showed the boys bonking the teenage girl in turns, has since gone viral on social media.

The video footage contributed to the arrest of the three boys from their various homes at Bantama over the weekend.

Four of the seven boys were able to escape arrest and are still at large.

Sources say the police have intensified their search to smoke out the four suspects from their hideout.

Special Protection For Victim

Meanwhile, the victim is said to be in good health and also assisting the police to get to the bottom of the case.

A source said the police have provided a decent shelter for her to shield her from the public.
