Mr Andrew Dari Chiwitey, the Member of Parliament for the Sawla-Tuna Kalba Constituency has expressed worry on the dilapidated nature of the Tuna-Kalba road, affecting the movement of goods and services in the areas.

He said the bad nature of the roads had led to the increased armed robbery cases within the Sawla-Tuna-Kalba district and called for urgent attention to arrest the situation.

He said, "Due to the bad nature of some of the roads, almost every week we have armed robbers attacking citizens that use these bad roads".

He expressed this concern at the weekend during the 7th Annual Congress of the Birifor Women Association held at Kalba in the district.

Mr Chiwitey said in November 2017, he raised the issue in parliament directing it to the Minister for Roads and Highways, Mr Kwasi Amoako-Atta to see to it that the construction of the road was completed but to no avail.

"I requested for him to tell me the reason why up till now the road, which was awarded for construction in 2016 had not been tarred" he said.

Mr Chiwitey said he was, however, assured that government would bring back the contractor to come and finish tarring of the road.

He said the contractor only came to Kalba town and worked half way for a week and left.

Mr Chiwitey appealed to the DCE and government to with immediate effect come to the aid of the people of Sawla-Tuna-Kalba by completing the construction of the road to aid mobility of goods and services.

He also called on the Police command of the Sawla-Tuna-Kalba area to intensify security checks in the area.

Mr Chiwitey also suggested for the need to split the Sawla-Tuna-Kalba constituency into two, due of the vast size of the constituency, since the linkages between the towns in the district was very far apart.
