Mumford (C/R), Dec. 27, GNA - Fishermen at Mumford in the Central Region have collected 17,640,000 cedis from beach tolls from June to August 2004 to finance development projects.
Briefing newsmen on the performance of the new beach management committee after the removal from office of the former chief fisherman in June 2004 for non-performance, Nana Gyasie, the acting chief Fisherman said, in that same June, 3.1 million was realised, 6,710,000 cedis in July and 7,830,000 cedis realised in August.
He said the committee had decided to put up a palace for the chief of the town.
To this end, Nana Gyasie said 2,000 blocks had been bought at a cost of 8,000,000 cedis.
He said 10 diamond electric bulbs have been bought at 4,700,000 cedis to improve the lighting system at the beach.
He assured the fishermen and other citizens of the town that the new management committee would be accountable to them therefore, they should feel safe to contribute to the development projects initiated.
