The ruling National Democratic Congress has scoffed at reports by the UK-based Economist Intelligence Unit (EIU) that President John Mahama will lose the 2016 elections.

The party says it is confident Ghanaians will retain the president in order to enable him continue his development agenda.

The latest EIU report tips Ghana’s main opposition New Patriotic Party (NPP) to win next year’s elections. According to the report, poor handling of the June 3 flood disaster by the Mahama-led administration will contribute to its defeat at the polls.

It also noted that “a growing number of protests against the National Democratic Congress government’s management of the country are expected, particularly, in the capital and economic hub Accra disrupting business operations there.

“These protests are expected to peak in the early part of the forecast period when the economy is at its weakest".

Speaking to Nii Arday Clegg on the Morning Starr Friday, deputy general secretary of the NDC Koku Anyidoho said the party is focused and will secure victory in 2016.

“They must have a reason why they have brought this information out. I don’t know the basis of their research and their parameters, but I don’t think the NDC is going to lose sleep over that.

“We know the hard work we are doing and what we have done. So we are not worried at all about what the Economist Intelligence Unit will say. We are focused, and we know the work we have done on the grounds and everyone is seeing it,” he noted.
