The National President of the NPP Patriots, Calvin Mensah, has emphasised the importance of reflection, unity, and renewed youth engagement as critical steps for the New Patriotic Party (NPP) to return to power in 2028.

Speaking after attending a KNUST TESCON event, Mensah projected a balanced perspective, stressing that political power is not permanent.

“It’s really normal,” Mensah said. “Power is transient, so it’s not permanent that we are going to be in power forever. Today is the turn of the NDC, and I believe that tomorrow will be the turn of the NPP again. I just think this is the best moment for us to reflect, recoup what we have lost, reunite the party, and come back into power in 2028.”

He framed the opposition period as a valuable learning opportunity for the NPP leadership.

“I don’t really think it’s a big deal, but rather a lesson for our leaders—to listen better to the grassroots and see what the people actually expected from the previous government. We will use it to recoup ourselves and come back stronger.”

When asked about the ongoing race for the party’s presidential nomination, Mensah acknowledged the different factions vying for the position but maintained neutrality, stressing that the NPP Patriots would respect the will of the people.

“In my capacity as NPP Patriots President, I really don’t want to give my voice to the factions. For us, we want to claim power as the youth wing. So, whoever deserves to be flagbearer is the one we are going to rally behind.”

He further noted that all aspirants had been vetted and were qualified to lead the party.

“They were all screened, they were qualified enough, and they have the resources and qualities of leaders. We just want the voice of the people to speak. Once the clarion call says we want candidate A or candidate B, we, as the youth, just have to give our support to that choice.”

Mensah also highlighted the collaborative work between the NPP Patriots, TESCON, and other affiliated groups in supporting the party during its time in opposition.

“As president of the NPP Patriots, we are working hand in hand with TESCON and other affiliate groups, including NPP Loyal Ladies, to ensure that we do the little volunteer work we can to strengthen the grassroots.”

He revealed plans for community engagement initiatives, including health screenings, to rebuild public trust in the NPP.

“We have plans of organising health walks, health screenings, and similar activities to appeal to communities so that they regain confidence in the NPP and support our return to power.”

Mensah delivered these remarks at the swearing-in and dinner night ceremony of the KNUST TESCON executives, where he congratulated both the outgoing and incoming leaders.

“TESCON has put together a really great event. I want to congratulate Godfred Perma for his outgoing administration and also extend congratulations to the incoming team,” he said.

He further referenced statistics from last year’s elections, noting that 55 percent of voters were young people. He stressed that when the party invests in the youth, particularly TESCON, the student activist wing of the NPP, the party will secure significant gains in the 2028 elections.

On his part, Godfred Kwasi Frimpong, outgoing President of KNUST TESCON, expressed gratitude and optimism during the organisation’s dinner night and handing-over ceremony. Frimpong reflected on his term, thanked key figures for their support, and pledged continued dedication to strengthening the NPP despite being in opposition.

“I thank the Almighty God for this great opportunity, giving us life to experience this moment,” Frimpong began, emphasizing the significance of the occasion.

He described the event as a “rite of passage,” symbolising the transition of leadership and fostering unity among TESCON members.

“It is important to organise such a moment where we can all come together, share food, and enjoy each other’s company. That is why we scheduled this particular activity.”

Frimpong extended heartfelt appreciation to the dignitaries who graced the event, particularly highlighting the presence of former Deputy CEO of MASLOC, Obidombie Kwabena Asamoah.

“When he was invited to be the special guest of honor, he accepted with great enthusiasm. Today he came with some members, and in fact, he made this program a successful one.”

He also thanked the Member of Parliament for Oforikrom, the TESCON Coordinator, the TESCON Patron, and all others who contributed to the success of the event.

A special note of gratitude was reserved for his fellow executives and TESCON members.

“Most especially, I thank all my colleagues, executives, my chief patron, and my TESCON members for making my administration a successful one.”

Responding to questions about the messages delivered by dignitaries, Frimpong reaffirmed TESCON’s commitment to the NPP’s future success.

“Though we are in opposition, that does not mean we should retire at this moment. We are fighting hard to ensure we become stronger again, to make TESCON and even the NPP proud. So generally, we are all working together, increasing our numbers, and making sure that in 2028, we will claim victory.”
