Nyamebekyere Number One (A/R), Dec 19, GNA- Government has awarded the 14.2 kilometre Asempaneye-Sekyedumase road in Offinso District in the Ashanti Region on contract at the cost of 5.2 billion cedis. The District Assembly has also started building a block of six classrooms, office and store for the Nyamebekyere Roman Catholic Primary School at the cost of over 500 Million cedis to enhance teaching and learning in the area.
Mr Augustine Collins Ntim, the District Chief Executive disclosed these at a mini-cultural festival organised at Nyamebekyere on Tuesday, to foster unity among the people. The festival, which involved drumming and dancing was organised by the Assembly and the District Cultural Office. Students from basic schools and adults from the communities in the area participated in the event that was aimed at unifying the people for peace and development. Mr. Ntim said government was committed to developing all communities in the country to improve upon the living conditions of the people.
He stated that the assembly would next year nurse seedlings of cocoa, oil-palm and citrus for distribution to farmers in the area and asked appealed to farmers to take advantage of the initiative and grow such crops.
Mr Osei Asssibey-Antwi, Deputy Regional Minister of the Ashanti Region, advised parents to take advantage of government educational programmes including the Capitation Grant and the School Feeding Programme and send their children to school. He said Government introduced the National Youth Employment Programme (NYEP) to enable the youth contribute to the socio-economic development of the nation.
Nana Sarfo Kantanka, Deputy Ashanti Regional Director of the Centre for National Culture, appealed to the people to educate their children about the country's cultural heritage.
Nyamebekyere Number One R/C Primary, Konkon D/A Primary, Kyeredaggye D/A Primary, Akrofoa D/A Primary and the Akrofoa Seventh-Day Adventist Church and Nyamebekyere Wala Dancing Group took part in the event. They were presented with prizes including exercise books, set of jerseys, footballs, wall clocks, rice, key soap and certificates. Nana Owusu Nyantakyi, Odikro of Nyamebekyere Number One, appealed to the organisers of the festival to sustain the programme to ensure unity and cooperation among the people.
