Walewale (N/R), March 15, GNA - National Democratic Congress (NDC) Delegates in the West Mamprusi Central Constituency at the weekend voted overwhelmingly against a former District Chief Executive (DCE), Mr. Adam E.Y. Gumah, and chose a teacher, Mr. Alidu Iddrisu Zakaria, as their parliamentary candidate for the forthcoming election.

Out of the 189 delegates who cast their vote, Mr. Zakari polled 152, while Mr. Gumah got 34 votes. Three of the ballots were declared invalid.

Later in an address, Mr. Zakari, who is Northern Regional Organiser of the NDC, said the victory is not for himself, but a victory for the entire party and thanked the delegates for a peaceful, transparent and fair electioneering process.

He called for support from the delegates and especially from Mr. Gumah, and said the party can only win the forthcoming election if party members remain united and work hard towards victory.

He appealed to the delegates to be good ambassadors of the party in their various electoral areas and to remain committed to the cause of the party in its quest to wrest power from the New Patriotic Party (NPP) this year.

Mr. Zakari, who is also a teacher at the Northern Business Secondary School in Tamale, emphasized the importance of the voter registration exercise and reminded the delegates of their role in educating the constituents and encouraging them to register.

Mr. Gumah on his part pledged his unflinching support for the victor and said he is always ready to help bring victory to the NDC in the forthcoming Presidential and Parliamentary elections.
