Aviation Minister has disclosed that Port Health Service Officers would be stationed at all domestic airports as part of plans to commence domestic flight operations after a three-week partial lockdown.

According to Mr. Kofi Adda, the move is necessary to aid in containing the Coronavirus infection as well as augmenting passenger confidence in airline transport.

“Port Health Service Officers would be stationed in all domestic Airports, which formerly didn’t have any. Passengers have to be confident that indeed when they fly, they are safe. So, I think this concern is one that needs to be dealt with quickly,” he said this during a virtual summit that was organized by the International Air Transportation Association (IATA).

Meanwhile, the minister said Ghana’s aviation industry is set to introduce passenger distancing as part of efforts to mitigate and contain the spread of coronavirus.

The measures and protocols, he says, are necessary to guide flight operators, passengers and flight crews in their operations.

“Other measures being introduced include the testing of flight crew members before they start operations, as well as fumigation, regular passenger and handling crew sanitization as well as the acquisition of more Personal Protective Equipment (PPEs) for the Port Health officials and ground handling personnel,” he explained.
