Ngleshie Amanfro (GAR), Dec. 6, GNA - The Domiabra Area Council has appealed to the Department of Feeder Roads to construct access roads from places such as Domiabra Manmmommo, Danchira and Ashalaja to Ngleshie Amanfro in the Ga West District.

This, the Council said would assist farmers, sellers and travelers, to patronize the Market Complex at Ngleshie Amanfro. Mr J D Mills, Secretary of the Council, stated this at the beginning of a Bazaar dubbed: "Christmas Shopping" at Ngleshie Amanfro. He also called for the tarring of the road from Amasaman, the District capital to Kasoa, to facilitate the transportation of people, goods and services and open up the area for development. Mr Mills noted that the rehabilitation of the road would serve as a by-pass to ease traffic on the Achimota-Mallam Junction-Kasoa trunk road.

He said the Area Council was to start re-negotiations with the various transport organizations, to revive the lorry station for vehicles plying the Market and communities such as Domiabra, Danchira, Ashalaja and Tomefa to promote trading activities at the Complex. Nii Festus Botchway, Chairman of the Market Management Committee, said the Bazaar was to expose the Complex to traders, farmers, manufacturers and commercial establishments. He urged people living in the area, especially those within the Ga West District to do their shopping at the Market instead of traveling long distances.

Nii Botchway said apart from promoting trading and commercial activities at the Market it would also contribute in the efforts to improve the livelihood of people in the area. Pastor Okpoti Annang, Secretary of the Market Management Committee, appealed to traders and hawkers being evicted from the streets of the Central Business District of Accra to rush to the Ngleshie Amanfro Market for the allocation of stores and sheds.

He stated that there were lots of trading opportunities in communities developing within the environs of Accra, adding that, "most of the people travel from such places to Accra just for shopping and if they can get what they want within their area why will they go all the way to the city," Pastor Annang told the GNA.

The Assemblyman for the Ngleshie Amanfro Electoral Area, Mr George Nyannie, urged the District Assembly to provide infrastructure such as pipe-borne water and electricity to promote the establishment of facilitates such as slaughter house, cold stores and ware houses. He said the Assembly could improve its financial standing with increased revenue from brisk commercial and trading activities at the Market. 7 Dec. 06
