Sixteen farmers honoured at Twifo Ama-Kwamoano

Twifo-Ama-Kwamoano (C/R), Nov. 10, GNA - Sixteen hard working farmers and a technical officer of the Twifo-Hemang-Lower-Denkyira District were honoured at a farmers' Day held at Ama-Kwamoano on weekend. Prizes ranged from television sets, spraying machines, Wellington boots, cutlasses, radio sets, bicycles, lanterns, wax-prints and soap. Madam Esi Baawa Baffo, a farmer from Twifo Mampong who excelled in the cultivation of maize, cocoa and sheep and goat rearing was declared the overall best for the district. For her prize, she took home a bicycle, Television and radio set each, a half piece of cloth, a spraying machine, two lanterns, six cutlasses, soap and two pairs of Wellington boots. Mr Samuel Agyeibie-Kessie, District Chief Executive, congratulating the award winners reminded them that government attaches much importance to their work, hence the mass cocoa spraying exercise, increase in produce price of cocoa and the cocoa hi-tech programme to improve the lot of farmers.

He expressed concern about the fallen standard of education in the district and appealed to parents to monitor the work of their wards. Mr Agyeibi-Kessie said the country needed peace for development and appealed to the electorate to refrain from acts that will disturb the peace of the country. The District Director of Agriculture, Mr Emmanuel Acquaye said the Ministry of Food and Agriculture (MOFA) will continue to collaborate with all stakeholders to ensure that agricultural production was enhanced and urged farmers to always contact Agricultural Extension Agents for improved yields. Nana Amoah Sasraku III, Omanhen of Twifo Heman traditional area who presided over the function commended the award winners for their hard work and urged the other farmers to work harder for them to attract awards next year. 10 Nov. 08
