Tension mounts in Bimbila
As a result of the Northern Regional House of Chiefs’ final verdict on the protracted Nanumba chieftaincy dispute on Tuesday, Citi News gathers the fuming Gbugmayili Royals are planning to create a parallel authority in the Nanumba Traditional Area.
Ahead of Naa Andani Dasana Abdulai II’s [the victor] arrival in Bimbila, the Gbugmayili Royals on Wednesday gathered in front of the old chief’s palace to start drumming – a gesture that is solely performed on special occasions like enskinment of a new chief or during festivals.
Abdul Rahaman Naatogmah, a teacher in Bimbila confirmed the seeming tension to Citi News.
He said: “As at yesterday, it was very calm, but today is like the Gbugmayili gate have gathered in front of the old chief’s Palace and they have said they will drum if the one confirmed by the house of chiefs comes to perform the traditional rites.”
He said majority of Nanumbas were unhappy about the Regional House of Chiefs’ ruling for which reason there is the likelihood to create a parallel authority in the Nanumba Traditional Area.
The Nanumba Traditional Area has been without a Paramount Chief since 2001 after the death of the late chief, Naa Abarika Attah II. **
