Two government employees adjudged best farmers

Eguase, Nov. 10, GNA- Two government employees, Constable Robert D. Tanyine of Saltpond Police Station and Mr. Latif Eduam, Bursar of Ekumfi T.I. Ahmadiyya Senior High School were adjudged the best tomatoes and pineapple farmers in the Mfantseman municipality. At the 24th National Farmers Day organized by the Municipal Assembly and the Municipal Directorate of the Ministry of Food and Agriculture at Eguase near Cape Coast, Mr. Tanyine and Mr. Eduam were each presented with a suitcase, half piece of cloth, two cutlass, a pair of Wellington boots, bar soap, two cake of Geisha soap and a certificate as their prizes.

A 37- year old farmer, Ebo Hanson of Ammisakrom near Yamoransa was adjudged the municipal best farmer and was presented with a motor bike costing GH¢ 5,000, and suitcase and other items. In all 25 farmers and fishermen were awarded for being the best in their various fields of work.

In a speech, Mr. Robert Quainoo-Arthur, Municipal Chief Executive reiterated the government's policy of ensuring that enabling environment was created for farmers and fishermen to increase production. The MCE said due to the good policies of the government, the impact of the global food and financial crisis had not been much felt as it was the case in some countries including the developed ones. He commended farmers and fishermen for feeding the nation under difficult climatic conditions. He appealed to them to embrace the health insurance scheme to enable them to access affordable health care. The theme for the day was: "Globalization and its effect on agricultural production in Ghana."
