Unite and focus on development – DCE

Saeed Muhazu Jibril, the District Chief Executive of the West Gonja District in the Savannah region has appealed to all Assembly members to come together and concentrate on development issues that would benefit the people.

He said, "Let us remember that the common agenda we have is the eradication of poverty, hunger, violent conflict and diseases among our people and this can only be achieved if we unite and focus on issues that will bring development to our people".

The DCE made the appeal when he addressed Assembly Members and heads of institutions and departments at the First Ordinary Assembly Meeting of the West Gonja District, to plan for the development agenda of the area.

He officially informed the house about the creation of the Savanna Region and Damongo as its administrative capital and that Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo, the President on February 12, 2019 presented the Savannah Region with its Document of Attestation and Constitutional Instrument (CI 115).

He, however, said, Damongo was challenged with accommodation facilities to house officers posted for the smooth take - off of the region and expressed hope that with a unity of purpose, the region would receive its fair share of the national cake for the needed development.

He commended all members for the diverse efforts put together to attain the region and urged them to facilitate the smooth take - off of the region to justify its creation.

Touching on Internally Generated Fund, the DCE disclosed that, the Assembly realised a considerable improvement and mentioned that at the end of the first Quarter of 2019, the Assembly generated an amount of GH¢125,972.00) representing 23.35 per cent of the estimated target of GH¢539,268.00 for the year.

He lauded the Assembly Members for their immense role in mobilising revenue and encouraged them to continue to do more for development.

On the government flagship programmes, Mr Saeed Muhazu Jibril revealed that, two dams under the One Village, One Dam (1V1D) policy had been completed to boost all year-round farming in the communities. He also enumerated a number of developmental projects of which some were completed while others were still ongoing.

He mentioned them as; health and educational facilities, and the provision of institutional latrines to mention but few, aimed at improving the living conditions of the people.
