The Deputy General of the ruling New Patriotic Party (NPP) has said the decision to open nomination for the presidential primary is to democratically allow interested persons to contest the race.

He said despite the unprecedented performance of President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo, the party believes in democracy and just as stated in its constitution, it must open nomination to allow all interested persons to file and contest.

He explained on Rainbow Radio 87.5fm that even under former President Kufour whose works were unprecedented, nominations were opened to allow people to contest him.

According to the deputy scribe, it should not be surprising if someone contests the president in the April 25, presidential primary.

He said the NPP, unlike the NDC, will not slam or attack anyone who will contest the current president.

Anyone interested in contesting should be bold and pick his or nomination forms and contest, he added.

Meanwhile, he has rubbished suggestions that the GHc200,000 filing fee for the presidential race is outrageous.

In his view, it is the cheapest compared to other parties.
