The Ghana Red Cross Society (GRCS) has encouraged the youth to show strong inclination towards voluntary and humanitarian services.

Mrs. Lydia Maclean, Director of Communication and Marketing of the GRCS, said the youth needed to join efforts, to help bring relief to the suffering and the vulnerable in society.

She was speaking at a day’s workshop held in Kumasi to throw light on the principles and values of the GRCS, as well as the international humanitarian law.

It brought together members of the security services, including police and prison officers, assembly members, chiefs and religious leaders.

Mrs. Maclean said the GRCS, which had more than 150 district offices across the nation, was determined to collaborate with the Ghana Health Service, National Disaster Management Organization (NADMO) and other bodies, to save lives in times of disaster.

They would never compromise on their neutrality as they worked to protect and bring comfort to those in need of support.

Mr. S.S. Mahame, Northern Regional Chairman of the Society, spoke of plans to train more people on the administration of first aid to keep them safe during accidents and disasters.

The Ashanti Regional Vice Chairman, Mr Kwadwo Nkansah-Fordjour, appealed to individuals, churches and organizations to support the activities of the society.**
