The University of Education, Winneba has concluded a pact with the Mampong College of Technical Education as part of processes to help convert the College into a tertiary institution.

The Vice-Chancellor, Professor Mawutor Avoke speaking at a ceremony held at the Council Chamber on 14th September, 2016 said Colleges of Education are the university’s cherished partners in ensuring quality teacher education, training and quality education delivery in Ghana and beyond.

He added that it is necessary that some higher educational institutions support the various Colleges of Education in building their capacities because it is critical in the course of establishing a frame-work for professional development and growth as well as monitoring the activities of the colleges and providing guidelines when necessary.

Responding to a statement alluded to him in recent media publications, as having said that a certain percentage of teachers do not qualify to teach in tertiary institutions, he said that information is factually incorrect and inaccurate. He explained that it was not a generalized statement to include all tertiary institutions but directed to some Colleges of Education. Professor Avoke was however quick to add that it was not intended to downplay or belittle the caliber of teachers in Colleges of Education.

The Principal of Mampong Technical College of Education, Rev. Dr. Victor Kwami Nyuieko Avotri, in a statement said the pact signed is expedient because as the College develops, it is good to associate itself with institutions that can help further their mandate of training technical teachers.

The Council Chairman of the Mampong Technical College of Education expressed his gratitude to the team for joining ties with the University of Education, Winneba and was optimistic that other Colleges will follow their steps.

The pact was signed on behalf of the Mampong Technical College of Education by the Principal of the College and was witnessed by the College Secretary, Mr. Samuel Opoku. That of UEW was signed by the Vice-Chancellor, witnessed by the Registrar, Dr. C.Y. Akwaa-Mensah.

S Ackorlie, Deputy Registrar, Academic, Mrs. Wilhelmina Tete-Mensah, Council Chairman for Mampong Technical College of Education and Mr. Daniel Kwesi Adarkwa.
