Obuasi municipal assembly organises town hall meeting

In its quest to deepen grassroots participation in local government, the Obuasi Municipal Assembly on Friday 11th September 2016, met Sub-committee Chairmen, Unit Committee members, Civil Society Organizations and various Heads of Department to discuss the Assembly’s fee-fixing resolution and projects progress report.

Mr. Isaac Appiah Nsiah, the Chief Budget Analyst in a power point presentation said, the Assembly owes a responsibility to explain its programmes and policies to the people in order to ensure participatory governance. He said, the Assembly is empowered by ACT 462 of the 1992 Constitution of Ghana to collect revenues from the people to enable it develop the Municipality. He painstakingly explain the various sources of revenue to the Assembly such as;

[I] Intergovernmental fiscal transfers-D.A.C.F, D.D.F, UDG and GOG salaries

[ii] Local Government borrowing to meet Cash flow needs and for Capital Financing.

[iii] Donor funding (Internal and External)

[iv] Internally Generated Funds; Payments or Contributions paid specific beneficiaries of district sources.

Mr. Nsiah revealed that for some times now, there has not been any increment in rates and fees due to the current situations with Anglogold Ashanti which has affected businesses locally.

He tasked participants to inform their members of the outcome of the meeting.

Mr. Fredrick Agyeman, the Municipal planning Officer took participants through the various projects undertaken by the Assembly from the period 2014 to 2016, the Sources of funding, project location, contracts sum and status of those projects were all revealed.

Opportunity was given to participants to ask relevant questions on various issues concerning the Assembly
