Adam Mohammed an ex-convict, was released from prison custody yesterday, [Thursday] 29 September 2016, after spending almost 10 years in jail over the possession of narcotics, marijuana popularly known as 'wee'.

Adam Mohammed was arrested in 2008 but was sentenced in 2010 after being held in remand for 2 years. Speaking in an exclusive interview with Kwame Tutu on Rainbow Radio 87.5Fm, the ex-convict described his experience as horrific since, the reason why he was caught and jailed was being done in the prison.

Mohammed Adam, who was a farmer before he was arrested and jailed, confessed that he smoked and sold the substance.

According to him, the use of marijuana in our prisons is glaring and dangerous to inmates. He revealed, he started smoking 'wee' in the year 1971 at a very young age.

Adam Mohammed, a resident of Akodam, Kumasi sharing his experience told the host that, he was extremely sad after he found out that, the use of marijuana was allowed in Ghana's prisons, a place where prisoners are expected to be reformed. ''I cried because what led to my arrest and incarceration was being done in our prisons. I felt sad and asked myself what was the use in arresting and jailing me.''

Adam Mohammed when asked to substantiate his allegation said, he was ready to take anyone the prisons to expose the rot if challenged.

According to him, some of the prison wardens are part of the practice and usually buys for prisoners the substance. He revealed that, a prison officer was recently shot accidentally after he made an attempt to smuggle marijuana to an inmate.

He also indicated that, homosexuality in our prisons is alarming, as inmates sleeps among themselves to satisfy their sexual desires.

Inmates charged for defilement and theft were the ones who are allowed to go out and work and also smuggle into the prisons the substance, he alleged further.

Adam Mohammed is married with three children and his last born was 12 years when he was arrested and sentenced.

When asked who introduced him into what caused his incarceration, he said, a friend of his, who he was older than, did.

Adam Mohammed said, he would go back into farming when he returns back to his hometown but quickly added that, he will be glad if he is employed by anyone although he failed to specifically identify any specific job, he would want to do.
