Hundreds of school children in Bimbilla, in the Nanumba North District in the Northern Region are nurturing themselves into future armed robbers, as they have resorted to gambling.

The Chinese nationals have dotted gambling machines at all the villages along the Yendi-Bimbilla stretch, a development that has left the pupils stealing monies from their parents and other people to play truancy during school hours.

The situation has greatly affected the academic performance of pupils in the area since their only preoccupation now is how to make more money.

Parents who are very disturbed by the status quo have urged government to immediately take steps to suspend the operation of the gambling machines by the Chinese.

A distraught father, Abor William in an interview said parents will be forced to take on the Chinese if government fails to act.

“Government should take taxes from people who are doing better things and not people who are training our children to become thieves in the future. We are not happy with this development, why should we allow them to do that. If the government fails to sack these Chinese from the area, then we’ll do it ourselves and we shouldn’t be blamed for our course of action.”

Efforts to reach the District Chief Executive for the District, Alhaji Ibn Abass, to find out how the assembly intends to deal with the issue has proved futile.
