30 communities in Wa to benefit from one-village, one-dam in 2018

As part of the Presidential Special initiative Projects (PSI), 30 communities in the Wa Municipality will benefit from the one village one dam this year.

Sing, Bihee, Jonga and Yibille are among the first communities to have the dams.

This was revealed when the Wa Municipal Chief Executive, Issahaku Tahiru Moomin and members of the Northern Development Authority called on the Chiefs and people of the aforementioned communities to take over lands for the construction of the dams.

President Akufo-Addo during the 2016 electioneering period promised to establish a dam in villages in the three Northern regions of the country to boost agriculture via a well-planned irrigation policy.

Highlighting the vision of President Nana Akufo-Addo, for the construction of the dams, the MCE said the dams will go a long way to help all year round farming in the Wa Municipality since this part of the country only have one season of rain pattern.

He said it is the vision of the president to stop rural-urban migration among the youth, particularly those in the northern part of the country to help improve the socio-economic lives of the people in the country.

In requesting for the piece of land from the community members, the MCE was quick to ask for litigation free lands since the construction of the dams will help the entire community.

He also advised the chiefs and people not to fight over lands for the dry season farming when these dams are ready.

The assembly member for Jonga electoral area, Ibrahim Dowbilee who could not hide his joy commended the President and the MCE for acting on their promise of making farming a lucrative business in the community.

He personal applauded the MCE for always remembering his electoral area for development projects.

The construction of the dams will be executed by the Wa Municipal Assembly in collaboration with the Northern Development Authority and the department of Irrigation Development Authority.
