President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo visits Droboman
Final funeral rite for the late Beyeeman Bosea Gyinantwi is underway at Drobo in the Jaman South Municipality of the Brong Ahafo Region.
At about 11 am on Monday, May 7, the body of the ex-military officer arrived in a helicopter to a waiting throng of mourners made up chiefs and people from all 44 towns under the Drobo State as well as sympathizers from far and near.
Following a brief military custom, the body of the deceased was escorted in a cortege through the streets of Drobo amidst firing of musketry and other traditional observances.
The late Beyeeman Bosea Gyinantwi IV, who was the father-in-law of ace sports journalist Nathaniel Attoh, has since been laid in state at the Krupiase Palace.
President Akufo-Addo, on Tuesday, May 8 joined the bereaved family and Nananom of Droboman at a gathering to pay his last respects to the departed royal.
Present at the occasion were Nana Yaa Ansua and Nana Akosua Fima Dwaben Ababio II, the Amanhemaa of Drobo and Dormaa respectively with their entourage as well as the Brong Ahafo Regional Minister, Hon. Asomah Cheremeh.
Also in attendance were Ghana Infrastructural Fund Board Chair, Professor Christopher Ameyaw Akumfi; Employment and Labour Relations Minister, Ignatius Baffour Awuah; MCEs for Jaman North and South as well as Berekum East and West, among others.
In a message delivered on his behalf, President Akufo-Addo offered his condolences to the bereaved family and people of Droboman, reiterating his solidarity with them.
He said the late Omanhene was a paragon of patriotism and man of valour who distinguished himself in service to his community and country.
Nana Akufo-Addo related that the late retired soldier, while alive, offered him great pieces of advice and encouragement, especially when he decided to pursue his dream of becoming president.
He presented some items and a bullock to the Traditional Council in addition to a cash donation of Ghc20,000 toward the funeral.
The President encouraged the family of the deceased as well as chiefs and people of Droboman to be strong even as they mourn.
Activities for the weeklong funeral celebration shall run till Sunday, May 13 when the late traditional leader will be laid to rest.
The obsequies will be immediately followed by the installation of a new Omanhene on Monday, May 14.
Yesterday, Nananom of Droboman sat in state to receive their historical older brother, the Omanhene of Dormaa traditional Area, Osagyefo Oseadeyo Agyemang Badu II, who came to perform certain rites for the deceased as per tradition.
The Amanhene of Yeji and Techiman will join Nananom today at the Krupiase palace ahead of a grand gathering tomorrow, May 12, which former Presidents Kufuor and Rawlings are expected to attend.
