Six perish in Yendi-Tamale road accident

Six passengers including one-year-old boy and drivers of Neoplan bus with registration number GW 2797-S and Benz bus with registration number AS 693-N died at Puriya on the Yendi-Tamale on Thursday evening when both vehicles crashed.

A final year student of the Yendi Senior High School, Master Haruna Ashraf 21 years, and Madam Salemu James were among those, who perished and their bodies had been deposited at the Yendi Municipal Hospital Mortuary.

According to an eye witness, who was also a passenger in the Benz bus, the Neoplan bus was trying to avoid a pothole and went into the lane of the Benz bus and crashed into it.

The injured were rushed to the Tamale Teaching Hospital (TTH).

Due to lack of ambulance at the Yendi Municipal Hospital, an Ambulance had to come from the Tamale Teaching Hospital to convey the injured to the TTH.

Those on admission at the Yendi Municipal Hospital emergency ward included; Mohammed Abdul –Razak 21 years, second year student of Vitting Senior High School in Tamale, Master Abukari Fusheini 27 years, Pastor Lafiatu Abdul- Razak 35 years of Spirit Empire Church in Tamale, Mohammed Alhassan 18 years, a final year student of Dagbon State Senior High Technical School at Yendi, Zenab Wudu, 28 years, and Abdul-Aziz Sayibu, 48 years, a driver from Yendi.

According to the Motor Traffic and Transport Department of the Ghana Police Service at Yendi, personnel of Yendi Ghana National Fire Service had to assist them to cut open the vehicles to remove the bodies and the passengers, who were trapped.
