A total of number of 21,140 candidates from both public and private Junior High Schools in the Upper East Region are expected to write this year’s Basic Education Certificate Examination (BECE).
The pupils comprised 10,432 males and 10,708 females from 563 schools including, 477 public and 86 private schools.
Mrs Patricia Ayiko, the Upper East Regional Director of Education, who made this known in an interview with the Ghana News Agency, said 83 examination centres would be used.
The Regional Director expressed joy at the high number of females among this year’s candidates and commended the teachers for their service in guiding the pupils.
She urged the pupils to avoid examination malpractice as it would ruin their future adding that the BECE is the passage for realizing their dreams.
Sharing the concerns of the invigilators particularly with regards to the unpaid allowances, Mrs Ayiko reiterated the Ghana Education Services’ commitment to settle those debts and urged the invigilators to consider the work as patriotic service to the nation.
Mr Elvis Apam, the Bolgatanga Municipal Examination Officer, told the GNA that 2,872 candidates from 75 schools in the Municipality were participating in this year’s BECE.
He said if any is found breaking the rules, you would be punished according to the WAEC laws which include the cancellation of papers.
