Akim Oda Concerned Citizens Association (AKOCCA) have appealed to the government through the Ministries of Roads and Highways and Finance to expedite action on the rehabilitation of a deteriorated bridge at Akim Oda.

They said although several appeals had been made with assurance from the government, the current situation of the bridge could lead to a major calamity, particularly with the setting of rains in the area.

Mr Gilbert Kwasi Frimpong, the Public Relations Officer for AKOCCA who was addressing the media in a news conference in Oda said they had held several meetings with Mr Kwabena Bempong the Municipal Chief Executive on the deteriorated bridge near the Akim Oda Jubilee hospital.

He said the situation had been heightened by the falling of a tipper truck with registration number GT - 7528 -15 off the edge of a deteriorated bridge.

Mr Frimpong said although there was no casualty from the accident, its impact on the bridge had resulted in panic and fear and therefore needed special attention.

Meanwhile Mr Bempong, the Municipal Chief Executive had revealed that all paperwork concerning the rehabilitation of the bridge had been completed and forwarded to the appropriate authorities, but funds had not been released from the Ghana Roads Fund Department of the Ministry of Roads and Highways.

The deteriorated bridge near the Jubilee hospital links the Municipality to several other Metropolis, Municipalities and district in the Eastern region, and other regions such as Greater Accra, Volta and Central.
