Participatory governance is my priority - Tarkwa-Nsuaem MCE

The Tarkwa-Nsuaem Municipal Chief Executive Hon. Gilbert Ken Asmah has assured the people in the municipality that he would continue to deepen participatory governance in his administration to foster growth and development.

"I believe that it is prudent for us as policymakers to get our constituents abreast with the current and proposed development within our localities and the nation as a whole"

The President's representative gave the assurance during a Town Hall Meeting organized by the Tarkwa-Nsuaem Municipal Assembly in collaboration with Information Services Department through the Ministry of Information. 

The meeting, third in series sort to interact with the various opinion leaders, civil society groups and the general public to create a platform for them to ask relevant questions on development issues and the utilization of Assembly resources to better their lives.  

The Chief Executive said the Assemblies was mandated by the Constitution to account for their stewardship and the management of the public resources that have been entrusted into its care by the people.

He hinted that government has constantly been reforming the local government systems to empower local authorities to enable them to deliver on their mandate to the people through planned programmes and projects that meet their aspirations.

Hon. Gilbert Ken Asmah indicated that he and his team attaches greater importance to grass-roots participation in its process as the hallmark for sustainable development and for that reason it had empowered the various subcommittees at the Assembly with resources to perform effectively; he noted.

The Chief Executive outlined to the gathering some highlights of programmes, projects, and activities as well as the policy decisions that the Assembly had implemented for sustainable development through a broader and effective consensus building with the public since he assumed office within the last eleven months.

Key among the highlights included; education, health, sanitation, disaster management, road infrastructure, revenue mobilization, social intervention activities as well as security.

In the area of healthcare, he mentioned the construction of the Dompim clinic with Doctor's accommodation, two bedroom semi detached doctor's bungalow at Governor hill, construction of a CHPS compound at Mile 10 and half, presentation of medical equipment to the Mahamo clinic worth over ten thousand cedis.

Touching on Security, he cited the newly constructed and furnished Dompim Police Station with officers accommodation, the construction of the Benso Police station also with accommodation, the newly constructed Fire Service Office at Ahwetieso.

In the field of education, he mentioned the construction of a 2 unit classroom for Benso Essamang M/A. Construction of 3 units classroom block with office, store, staff common room, computer room, completion of 2 unit KG, concrete U-drain, six (6) seater enviro-loo toilet and a 2 bay urinal including latrine filling work all at Essamang Kakraba.

We have also constructed a new market complex at Nsuaem with toilet facilities pending commissioning, In the area of road infrastructure my administration has done a lot for the Municipality, few among them are the facilitation of the new DVLA road with a culvert, double cell culvert at Boamoa, double cell culvert at Tamso new road, single cell culvert at Prisons quarters, he mentioned the construction of a mechanised bore-hole with a treatment plant for the Yayaho community in April this year.

He, therefore, called on all stakeholders and the general public to rally behind the Assembly so that the available resources could be utilized effectively to propel the Assembly to an enviable level that guarantees shared growth and prosperity for all in the Municipality.

It is also important to note that the essence of the forum has been localized with matters related to Tarkwa-Nsuaem Municipality but it is also imperative that I present to you national policies, programmes and projects initiated and implemented by Nana Akufo-Addo led NPP government.

Currently, over 10,000 unemployed tertiary graduates are undergoing the Nation Builders Corps, NABCO interview after which they will be employed in their respective modules, the NABCO policy was introduced by H.E Nana Akufo-Addo to address the unemployment menace in the country over the years, he added.

It will be recalled that earlier this month, at a cabinet meeting it was agreed that the reshaping and asphalting of the Tarkwa town roads shall soon commence, this move was re- echoed by the President during his visit to Tarkwa on June, 9th 2018. I also want to inform you of the nationwide upgrading of some District Assemblies to the status of Municipality, some of which include Amenfi West, Prestea Huni-Valley and Amenfi East, all these successes have been achieved under the able and visionary leadership of President Akufo-Addo he said.

In attendance was the Member of Parliament for Tarkwa-Nsuaem constituency, Hon George Mireku Duker, Heads of Departments, Representatives of Mining Companies, Assembly members, civil society groups, traditional authorities and the general public.
