N-PLEC Foundation, a group of tertiary students have donated sets of books to pupils of Peki Blengo in the Volta region as part of efforts to inculcate the habit of reading among them.
The donation forms part of an ongoing workshop dubbed 'Getting The Basics Right'; aimed at providing extra curricular activities with extra guidance in career selection among others for over 300 pupils from different schools.
Being the first point of call for education in the Volta Region, schools in the area have fallen off the radar as many have struggled to put a proper showing in the Basic Education Certificate Examination for years.
The nongovernmental group, N-PLEC Foundation was formed by tertiary students from across a number of universities with the aim of providing basic school pupils with networking opportunities, providing avenues to practicalize book knowledge and enhance learning while affording them the opportunity to develop their talents.
The workshop is the second edition of the annual programme.
President of the foundation, Jonas Ahiaku who spoke to commence the two-day workshop admonished the pupils to go beyond the academic knowledge acquired to build stronger careers.
According to him, the books along with the talk shops and mentoring sessions must spark the beginning of new things in their lives and the entire Peki community.
On his part, Development Chief of the Peki traditional area, Togbe Kukurantumi II thanked members of the foundation for their decision to organize the workshop.
He tasked teachers and parents of pupils in the area to support the education of their children so as to improve their performance in the BECE.
The two-day workshop will see pupils engaged in mentorship sessions with career experts from different fields to demystify perceptions about career choices.
As part of efforts to cultivate the culture of entrepreneurial, pupils are expected to undergo short sessions with rising entrepreneurs like CEO of Traffic light Breakfast, Derrick Amenuve and McDenis Appau who heads the Treasure Maks Studio.
The two-day workshop is expected to be crowned with a quiz competition and talent exhibition for pupils in the area.
