The National Nasara Coordinator of the ruling New Patriotic Party (NPP), Abdul Aziz Haruna Futa, believes the Free Senior High School education policy will in the next 10 years reduce drastically crime and poverty in Zongos.

“In 10 to 20 years to come, we the Zongo people will take over politics in Ghana, you know why, because we are taking advantage of the Free SHS that is our future,” he said.

He added: “Apart from the politics that we are taking over in 10 years’ time you will not see a Zongo armed robber, you will not see any Zongo being rascal or whatever, you will see a proper Zongo person and you will not see poverty again because education solves everything.”

He asserted that over the years, about 4,000 Muslim students who completed basic education every year could not further their education to Senior High School due to poverty.

“We had more than 4000 school drop outs after BECE in our Zongo communities, they did not have opportunity to go to SHS but today a woman I know in my community – Nima who sells Porridge and Koose – her daughter is in Achimota Secondary School for free. Today the rich and the poor rock shoulders in the School.”

Speaking in an interview with Starr News at the sidelines of a Homecoming and Thanksgiving service held for party members who are beneficiaries of the 2018 Hajj Pilgrim, Futa said Ghana’s fare for 2018 Hajj Pilgrim was the cheapest across Africa due to government subsidy.

Alhaji Ismaela Ibrahim, Director of Operation for the Hajj Board also in an interview described the 2018 Hajj as well organized and successful in the history of the Pilgrim as far as Ghana is concerned.
