The District Chief Executive for Ningo-Prampram in the Greater Accra Region, Jonathan Paa Nii Doku, has cut the sod for the construction of six bungalows at Mangotsonya to provide accommodation for teachers in the area.

The project, which is fully funded by the Assembly at a cost of GHC400,000, is expected to be completed within three months.

"We are building bungalows for teachers in Mangotsonya and the surrounding areas. There used to be one teachers bungalow but somewhere in 2012 the roof ripped off. Since the the teachers have been crying so we came to do the assessment and we have decided to put up a new bungalow for them and convert rehabilitate the old building into an ICT centre and library," Mr. Doku explained.

"This is in fulfilment of what government said that education is key so whatever the Central Government is doing at the secondary level in terms of providing Free Education, we as an Assembly our responsibility is to make sure that we take care of the basic level," he added.

According to the DCE, the absence of teacher's bungalow in the area is hampering education in the District and was hopeful that when the project is finally completed, it would help to improve performance in the area.

"When teachers are posted here within one year then they leave as a result of lack of accommodation for teachers. Let me add that as an Assembly most of our staff are also staying outside the district and this makes it difficult for them to report to work early so in 2019 we will address all the accommodation challenges by putting up workers bungalows," he stated.

Later in an interview, Mr. Doku, urged teachers in the district to do their best to assist pupils to improve upon their academic performance.

He pledged the commitment of government and for that matter, the Assembly to improve the conditions of teachers in the district.
