Personnel of the various security agencies in the Kasena-Nankana Municipal Assembly of the Upper East Region have been urged to be dutiful in the discharge of their duties.

They have also been cautioned against acts that will undermine the integrity of the agencies or disturb the peace of the area.

Speaking at an end of year get-together held at the Navrongo Police station to recognize the hardworking officers, Member of Parliament for Navrongo Central, Joseph Kofi Adda, who put the event together, said the security agencies play an integral role in maintaining peace and ensuring the safety of all residents.

Mr. Adda noted that the security of the country is of extreme importance and anyone who played a role in ensuring that is achieved must be recognized and celebrated.

“Over the years I have tried to find the time to show that gratitude but unfornately I could not do it in previous years. Today, I’m bringing the security agencies together in semi-formal or informal environment just to say thank you. I’m doing this not on my behalf. I’m doing this on behalf of the chiefs and people of the area to say thank you to you for leaving your hometowns and families to come to Navrongo, spend the years here, running around our communities and villages to keep us in harmony so that we can develop our country”.

He bemoaned the bad state of some of the facilities of the agencies and assured them of his commitment to find lasting solutions to the challenges.

For the Ghana Prisons services, Mr. Adda pledged to provide safe drinking water and better toilet facilities to officers and inmates. He also added that he will liaise with the sector minister to ensure challenges that have stalled the effective running of the correctional facility are properly addressed.

The MP tasked the officers to give off their best in every duty they are assigned irrespective of the challenges faced.

In his remarks, the deputy Upper East Regional Minister, Frank Fuseini Adongo urged the officers to be hospitable but firm and fair in their duties.

He stated that government has cleared the backlog of personnel promotions of the Ghana Police Service with the other security services to follow suit.

“The work of security personnel is highly valued and they hold a responsible role in our community. Your clients and the general public depend on you to protect them and their property. I will therefore urge you in your line of duty as officers to be hospitable but firm and fair in accordance with the rules and regulations of the service”

“The Government His Excellency, President Akufo-Addo has been able to clear most of the backlog of personnel promotions in the police service and other security services will follow suit”.

The event brought together personnel from the Ghana Police Service, Ghana National Fire Service, the Ghana Prisons Service, the Customs Excise and Preventive Service and officers of the Ghana National Ambulance Service.
