Sankor SHS headmaster appeals to government for electricity and others

The Headmaster of Sankor Senior High School in the Ahanta West Municipality of the Western Region, Mr. Joseph Kwaw Blay has made a passionate appeal to government to connect the school to the National grid to enhance teaching and learning.

The Headmaster made this during the inaugural ceremony of a-13-Member Board of Governors Friday to steer the affairs of the school.

Mr. Blay noted that since the school was completed and commissioned by former President John Mahama as part of his 200 Day SHS, the school has not been provided with electricity

In this situation, he said students cannot study at the school during the night.

He also added that the situation is also affecting the teachers too.

"In fact I use this opportunity to appeal to Government to help the school by providing us with electricity because we don't have, the situation is affecting the academic performance of the school, our students cannot study at night and as a result we don't have computers to ICT and next year too another final year students are going to write their WASSCE, the situation has affected us all", he lamented.

He also bemoaned that due to the lack of accommodation, he the Headmaster, Staff and Students commute to school from Agona-Nkwanta and Takoradi.

Mr. Blay added that the school was confronted with other challenges such as; the absence of ICT lessons due to lack of computers, inadequate classroom furniture and an uncompleted E-block.

He, therefore, seized the opportunity to plead with the Government and other benevolent Organisations to come to the aid of the school.

He charged the Government to complete the remaining E-block for the school.

He also appealed to the Board to ensure that the school was connected to the national electricity grid and completed the School washrooms.

The Superintendent Minister of the Dixcove Circuit of the Methodist Church, Very Reverend Isaac B. Cronze who administered the oath of allegiance, office and secrecy, charged the board to be selfless, committed and dedicated in their work to spearhead the development of the school.

On his part, the Western Regional Director of Education, Mr Addo Dankwa Akuffo, reminded the board to work within its terms of reference, but not to impose issues on school authorities.

He also charged the Board to ensure that the highest standard of discipline was maintained and challenged the students to learn hard to set an enviable record for the school.

The Municipal Chief Executive (MCE) for the area, Hon. Kofi in an address read on his behalf, admitted that the Assembly was aware of the problems bedevilling the school and pledged to donate a school bus and a headmaster's car among other interventions to better the lot of the school.

He also charged the Board to act swiftly to ensure that the E-block was completed for conducive academic work.

The board has as its Chairperson, Nana Bonya Kofi V1, an old student representative and an opinion leader, Mr. Ashford Adams representative of the Director-General of the Ghana Education Service.

Other members are; the Western Regional Director of Education, Mr Addo Dankwa Akuffo, Headmaster of Sankor SHS, Mr. Joseph Kwaw Blay, the Ahanta-West Municipal Director of Education, Mr. Mark Adoba Adatekey, Mr.Arnold Geoffry Arthur represents the PTA, Mr. Robert Muhammed represents the teaching staff and Madam Mercy Ampah serves the non-teaching staff on the board, Mr Samuel Johnfiah, also an old student and opinion leader.

The rest are; Mr Emmanuel Qauyson and madam Keita Fatimata, both from the Municipal Assembly.

Mr. Francis Mensah Baidoo and Nana Ndakyefor both represent historical interest.
