The nationwide limited voter registration exercise took off smoothly on Monday in the Ledzokuku-Krowor Municipality in the Greater Accra Region.

Mrs Gladys Pinkrah, the Deputy Greater Regional Director of the Electoral Commission (EC) in an interview with the Ghana News Agency at the Commission's Municipal Office in Nungua said the exercise kicked off at exactly 0700 hours in the Municipality.

She noted that at the beginning of exercise, the Voter Management System (VMS), which was suppose to capture data directly online at the Municipal Office of the Commission had a problem due to internet connectivity challenge, hence, they had to use three biometric voter registration (BVR) machines.

She said they were taking steps to resolve the VMS problem.

She noted that as at 1045 hours, 17 voters had been captured at the Ledzokuku-Krowor Municipal Office of the Commission.

Mrs Pinkrah, who said the Registration Centre was serving both the Krowor and Ledzokuku Constituencies, also appealed to people who had attained 18 years and above, who were not registered, to take advantage of the exercise and get themselves registered.

The ongoing voter registration exercise, forms part of the EC's preparations towards the conduct of the referendum on the election of Metropolitan Municipal and District Chief Executives (MMDCEs) and the 2019 District Level Elections (DLEs) slated for December.

The Electoral Commission (EC) on Monday began a nationwide limited voter registration exercise to capture new entrants.

According to the EC, the registration exercise, which started on Monday, June 17th and would end on Sunday, July 7th, would start from 0700 hours to 1800 hours on each day, and would include weekends?

The exercise is taking place in all the EC's District Offices in 1,573 selected electoral areas across the country.

The exercise followed the court's dismissal of a motion for interlocutory injunction seeking to restrain the Commission from undertaking the scheduled exercise.
