A clash between two ethnic groups, Akyodes and Chalas in Keri, a farming community in the Nkwanta South district of the Oti Region on Monday, 17 June 2019 has left three people injured.

The incident occurred as the Chalas were preparing an annual ritual to welcome the cultivation of yam.

According to an eyewitness, the Chalas had to traverse the land of the Akyodes to perform the ritual for the New Yam season but were prevented from doing so, a situation that led to a free-for-all clash.

The police and military were deployed to the area to restore peace.

The residents fled the scene and went into hiding as the security agencies stormed the area.

ASP Ayensu William Asare, the Nkwanta South police commander confirmed the incident to Class News.
