Excitement in Sandema ahead of Durbar to climax Feok Festival

Celebrations of the feok festival by the Builsa people, in the Builsa Traditional Area of the Upper East Region, started a week ago with various activities to thank the gods for a fruitful year.

The week-long celebration, observed across the Builsa area with massive participation, was occasioned with activities such as pacification of the gods with pouring of libations, exhibition of local crafts and foods, traditional war dancing, archery and several other educative programs.

The celebration attracted Ghanaians with diverse cultural orientations and friends from the western world majority of who came to appreciate the beautiful and splendid culture of the Builsa Land and its people.

The week-long celebrations end today and a durbar of the chiefs and people of the area will be held to climax the festival.

Already, the excitement in the whole area especially Sandema Township in anticipation of the durbar has trippled as people dressed in the traditional smock attire have poured on the streets in jubilation.

Traditional Builsa music has also been put on rotation on radio stations and loud speakers dotted throughout the district capital, with announcement of the pending durbar to complement.

Ghanaweb's Upper East Regional Correspondent, Senyalah Castro, who is in Sandema to give coverage of activities from the durbar reports that security has been beefed up to ensure peaceful climax of the festival.

He adds that dignitaries from government, the political, educational, law, and medical spheres are expected to grace the mammoth occasion.
