Most Reverend Alfred Agyenta, Bishop of the Navrongo- Bolgatanga Catholic Diocese, has urged Christians to use the Christmas season to renew their faith and win souls for Christ.

Bishop Agyenta said the season was the last month of the year and a good time for all to renew their relationship with God and ask Him to provide a new year with blessings that would improve their socio-economic lives.

Bishop Agyenta said this at the weekend when he joined members of the Saint Charles Lwanga Catholic Church at Zebilla in the Bawku West District of the Upper East Region to mark the Golden Jubilee of the church on the theme, "25 years of evangelization; praying for Vocation ".

Speaking on the role of the church in societal development, Bishop Agenta said the Church was an agent of change that could aid community members to transform their lives in a positive manner.

He congratulated the entire membership of the Church for their dedication, selfless, generous and faith based service for Christ.

Reverend Father David Ayariga, the Parish Priest of the church urged the members of the parish to be ambassadors of peace so as to encourage others to emulate and follow their footsteps to Christ.

He asked them to eschew all forms of negative speeches and actions that would grieve the Lord Jesus.

Giving the background of the Church, Rev. Fr. Ayariga said it was established in 1942 by the white fathers (Missionaries of Africa) as an out station of Bawku Catholic Church and was later granted a parish status thereby separating it from St. Anthony of Padua Parish, Bawku, 25 years ago.

“As we celebrate this Silver Jubilee, let us remember our religious, economic, social and moral values and so be grateful to God and live a fruitful, purposeful, meaningful and proactive life to the glory of God. We are to be hopeful, industrious, and eloquent in proclaiming the goodness of God to all and sundry,” he said.

Mr Frank Fuseini Adongo, the Upper East Deputy Regional Minister and Member of Parliament for the area urged the youth of the area to see themselves as national assets and work hard to be able to contribute to national development.

Mr Adongo commended the Catholic Church and the chiefs and people of Zebilla and its environs for their pro-activeness in maintaining the peace being enjoyed in the area, and urged them to focus on maintaining law and order.
