The DYnamiC (DYC) Choir has disclosed its preparedness to bring back the lost glory of choral music especially among the youth.

Mr Nii Lantey Lamptey, the Music Director of the DYC choir in an interview with the Ghana News Agency after the Choir’s “He Lives” Concert at the Wesley Methodist church in Accra said the choir strives to provide the opportunity for artistic and personal growth through choral, classical and traditional music performances.

The concert was graced by Most Reverend. Dr Paul Kwabena Boafo, the Presiding Bishop of the Methodist Church who called for the rekindling of choral music and bringing back its lost glory.

The “He Lives” concert is an Easter event that seeks to spread the salvation message through choral music.

Choral music, unlike contemporary gospel music, had become a type that most youth do not appreciate, however, the DYC Choir has a mission to create a unique musical experience that seeks to minister in songs and provide a platform to unearth and develop an artistic and leadership potential in young people.

Choral music in Ghana had seen some tremendous growth and development since colonial times. Many composers of substance had contributed to its growth and development, however, the late Ephraim Amu contributed immensely to shape the direction for the growth of choral music in the country.

Mr Lamptey noted that the DYC Choir had progressed steadily to become a force to reckon with and hope to become the most the preferred Christian Choral choir worldwide.

He said DYC’s seek to become internationally recognised to project a positive image of the African youth and African choral music.

“Whilst remaining distinctively Ghanaian, the Choir blends its repertoire with songs from other nations of the world,” he said.

The DYC started as Dansoman Youth Choir on January 28, 2006, to provide members with an opportunity for artistic and personal growth through choral, classical and traditional music performances.

The group strived to give choristers the opportunity to develop their musical and vocal abilities to their maximum potential through participation in choral programmes of international repute.

The Choir undertakes outreach programmes to show love to street children and share the word of God with them as well.

The Choir would on May 1, 2019 hold its second outreach programme at James Town.

The DYC Choir has a mission to create a unique musical experience to minister in songs and provide a platform to unearth and develop artistic and leadership potentials of young people and a vision to be the most preferred Christian Choral Choir worldwide.
