Board member of the Ghana Highway Authority; Senyo Hosi has revealed that GHS13 million has been set aside in the 2019 budget to complete and build other footbridges on the Madina-Adentan stretch to prevent further loss of life.

The Madina-Adentan road has been a source of numerous deaths as speeding vehicles hit crossing pedestrians who attempt getting to the other side.

The deaths reported to be over 190 led to a planned demonstration by residents demanding action from elected Assemble Members, Highway Authorities, MPs and leadership of the country.

According to Mr. Horsi, as a former resident of the area he shares in their pain but noted the protest march wouldn’t solve the problem rather there was need for the Motor Traffic and Transport Unit (MTTU) to place uniformed men at the points of crossing on the stretch adding safeguarding lives and property on the stretch was a shared responsibility requiring cooperation from residents.

He mentioned the assigned contractor had challenges hence the stalling of work but with the fund allocation in the budget, the situation was sure to improve.

Concerned citizens have called on the National Road Safety Commission (NRSC), National Disaster Management Organisation (NADMO), Motor Traffic and Transport Department (MTTD) of the Ghana Police Service and Ghana Highway Authority (GHA) to help stop the accidents and deaths by assigning their men and women in appropriate uniforms to engage pedestrians and motorists on how they can use that road safely in addition to erecting road safety signs immediately as an interim measure.
