The Gomoa West District Assembly has lifted the ban on the celebration of Peace Festival by the Musama Disco Christo Church (MDCC) this year at the headquarters of the church at Mozano.

The Assembly placed a ban on the celebration of the festival for security reasons.

The two-weeks festival, which brings together members of the church from all parts of the country and from abroad is celebrated in the latter part of August and ends in September.

Mr. Theophilus Aidoo-Mensah, the Gomoa West District Chief Executive, made the announcement at Mozano when he handed over a toilet facility to the community.

He said the District Security Committee (DISEC) decided to lift the ban due to a pledge made by some prominent members of the church to ensure peace during and after the festival.

Mr. Aidoo-Mensah said DISEC acknowledged the role the church plays in generating revenue for the Assembly and also in praying for peace in the district and the nation as a whole.

He expressed concern about the leadership crisis that had engulfed the church for over a decade now, saying “The Church is the pride of the district,” and appealed to the leadership to resolve all misunderstandings to ensure unity in the Church.

The Rev. Juba Jehu-Appiah, a Minister of the Church and a member of the District Assembly, commended the Assembly and the DISEC for allowing them to celebrate the festival and assured that they would ensure that nothing was done to disturb the peace.**
