In her quest to mitigate the spread of the coronavirus, the Member of Parliament (MP) for Prestea Huni-valley Constituency in the Western Region, Lawyer Barbara Oteng-Gyasi has stepped up the fight against the global pandemic in her constituency.

Earlier this week the MP donated over 10,000 nose masks to the Municipal NADMO Director for onward distribution to constituents.

According to her, the distribution of the locally produced nose masks is to ensure the safety of residents as they go by their daily activities and minimize the spread of the global pandemic.

The MP is hopeful the gesture will go a long way to enable constituents comply with the directive on the mandatory wearing of nose masks at all public places as issued by the Western Regional Coordinating Council.

The distribution commenced at Bogoso and would cover health centres, lorry stations, market centres, security agencies, private and public institutions and the general public.

Since the outbreak, Lawyer Barbara Oteng-Gyasi has committed significant resources to aid the national effort at preventing the spread of COVID-19. Which included the donation of GHC100,000 worth of Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) to frontline workers of public and private health facilities, security agencies, markets and lorry stations within the constituency.

Others included provision of a mobile public address system for community sensitization and education and other vital equipment to mitigate the spread.

Personnel who took to the street to distribute the masks reminded the general public especially vendors and hawkers to observe good personal hygiene, social distancing and other measures put in place by the government to curb the spread of the virus.

So far, Western Region has recorded 101 positive cases with 1 death and 1 recovery of Coronavirus.
