The Regent of Dagbon, Kapankuya Na Yakubu Abdulai Andani, has called on Muslims to use this year’s 30 days fasting period to intensify prayers for the nation.
He called on Muslims to use the period to pray for the security agents, the Electoral Commission and Ghanaians in general to work towards peaceful polls in December.
The Regent of Dagbon observed that fasting brought Muslims together in various Mosques to worship and listen to preaching from their Imams and offered special prayers before they broke the days’ fasting.
Kapankuya Na Abdulai Andani, who made the call when Imams called on him at his palace at Yendi to offer prayers for the area, said that the insulting speeches by some politicians during political campaigns should be avoided for the sake of national peace.
He said, “some of them don’t use language that will give the country peace during the 2012 polls,” and he reminded politicians that Ghana was the only place for Ghanaians and they (politicians) should not spark war.
Kapankuya Na Abdulai Andani appealed to politicians to educate the electorate on their manifestoes to enable them (electorate) make informed choices.
He asked Imams to persuade the youth not to allow politicians to use them to ferment trouble.
Kapankuya Na Abdulai Andani asked the Government to resource the security agencies to enable them to work effectively, particularly in the flash points during the December polls.
He noted that during the biometric registration exercise, there were tension in some parts of the country, and the Government and Ghanaians should not take the peace we are enjoying in the country for granted.
