The inmates at the Akuse Local Prison were not left out during the Easter festivities as they received goodies from Hagar Darkey Ministries to mark the memorable day on April 22, 2019.

The team from Hagar Darkey Ministries, a subsidiary of the Royal House Chapel at Michel Camp donated numerous items to the inmates. The items included clothes, slippers, toiletries, sanitary pads, laundry soaps, detergents and other valuable items to the Prison.

The team further spent time to break bread with the prisoners after leading them to offer their lives to Christ.

The ministry which is under the flagship of budding gospel musician, Hagar Darkey upholds the view of giving back to the less privilege in the society which is in fulfillment of the scriptures.

According to the musician the society tend to neglect family and friends who end up in unfortunate places such as the prison hence the need to come to their aid.

Established in 1911, the Akuse Prison which is located in the Eastern Region houses 226 inmates instead of an estimated 90. The cell is a reformation center which gives vocational and technical training as well as provides security for the prisoners.

DSP Darko Henry, the Chaplain of the Akuse Local Prison who spoke to members of the ministry called on Ghanaians to shun from stigmatizing ex-convicts because such negative perception inspires ex-convicts to engage in vices in order to return to jail since they find comfort and are treated equally there.

Citing an instance he said, “During my time at the Tamale Prisons one ex-convict got released from jail after serving his term but refused to go home because he feared his family would reject him. I had to escort him home and to my surprise the family stop him from entering the house and instead took him to a nearby river where he was given a spiritual bath and change of clothes.

He went on to reveal that the ex-convict got depressed after he was accused of stealing stuff which he had no idea off, he said “Two months after this ex-convict was arrested again because he intentionally went to steal a fowl in order to return to the prison because life outside the prison was terrible for him”.

DSP Darko along with the prison guards as well as the inmates were grateful to Hagar Darkey Ministries for their presentation.
