Cape Coast, July 31, GNA - Accra-based Class One Referee, Charles Dowuona who handled Ebusua Dwarfs/Vipers league match at Cape Coast last Sunday was saved by the police from being lynched by irate supporters of Dwarfs.
The match ended 1-1.
Referee Dowuona who performed creditably was surprisingly attacked by irate supporters who felt the referee had not handled the match to their satisfaction.
Immediately the referee whistled for the end of proceedings the supporters chased him on his way to the dressing room. But the timely intervention of the police prevented the supporters from going to the dressing room.
The police later whisked the referee in a Fire Service ambulance car to the lorry station to continue his journey to Accra. Meanwhile Mr Thomas Doe, Central Regional Chairman of the Football Association has condemned the behaviour of the supporters and asked club officials to educate their supporters to comport themselves during league matches.
