Former Ghana defender Jerry Akaminko recalls the injury that ruled him out of the FIFA World Cup in Brazil 2014.
The 32-year old was in fine form for the Black Stars leading to the World Cup, but unfortunately he missed out after picking up an injury in Ghana's preparatory game against Netherlands in Rotterdam.
The then Eski?ehirspor defender landed awkwardly after an aerial ball challenge, injuring his ankle which cost him a place in the team just few days to the start of the Mundial.
Six years on and the former Hearts of Lions player admits it was an "unforgettable day" in his career as a footballer.
"A day I’ll never forget but in all things give thanks. 31-5-14. Rotterdam," he posted on Twitter.
The defender has since not featured for the Black Stars, having struggled with form and injuries.
Akaminko has ten international caps for the Ghana and has scored once for the West African nation.
Currently he is on the books of Indonesian outfit Persik Kediri, the towering guardsman spent majority of his career in Turkey playing for Orduspor, Maniasaspor and Istabulspor.
