Ghana Premier League giants Asante Kotoko have watered down rumours claiming they have signed highly-rated midfielder Emmanuel Sarkodie from second-tier side Nkoranza Warriors.

A number of media outlets in Ghana reported the Porcupine Warriors had beaten rivals Hearts of Oak to the signature of the 20-year-old in a deal worth USD$17,800.

Kotoko have officially debunked the reports and denied signing a contract with the youngster who is regarded as the best player in the Zone One of the Division One League.

“We won’t make wholesale purchase in this transfer window. Probably, 2 or 3 players will be added to beef up the squad but currently, we haven’t signed any player in this window except Kwame Opoku. Emmanuel Sarkodie and those speculated players aren’t true,” Head of Communications Kennedy Boakye Ansah told Kumasi-based Light FM.

Sarkodie has been strongly linked with a move to Hearts of Oak with some outlets reporting the Phobians have already held several meetings with Warriors President Lesley Kuuku Bartels.

Hearts’ lower price of USD$5,500 is stalling negotiations but the club is set to step up the deal.
