The President of Eastern Nzema Traditional Council and Paramount Chief of Atuabo in the Ellembelle district of the Western region, His Royal Majesty Awulae Blay IX, has appealed to President John Dramani Mahama to establish the proposed second gas processing plant at Atuabo in the Ellembelle district to boost the country's energy sector.

The first CEO of the company, Dr George Sipa Yankey in 2016, secured land for the construction of the phase two of the gas processing plant at Atuabo and Anokyi but since then nothing has been done about the land.

Some energy experts including the Parliamentary Select Committee on Energy had earlier called on President John Dramani Mahama to do everything possible to build the second gas processing plant near the existing gas processing plant at Atuabo to save cost and also increase the energy capacity of the country.

The proposed project when completed will create over 1,000 jobs for Ghanaians - significantly reduce foreign exchange expenditure on fuel imports.

Speaking to the media in Ellembelle district, His Royal Majesty Awulae Blay IX remembered President John Mahama of his pledge of building the second gas processing plant in the area.

He commended President John Dramani Mahama for establishing the first gas processing plant at Atuabo in Ellembelle district.

He stated, "We want to use this opportunity to remind and appeal to President John Dramani Mahama to establish the second phase of the gas processing plant in our area as he told us in 2024 campaign. The construction of the second phase of the gas processing plant will bring more development to Ellembelle district and we believe in President John Dramani Mahama that the second gas processing plant will be established".

His Royal Majesty Awulae Blay IX further seized the opportunity to appeal to President John Dramani Mahama to establish an Oil and Gas University in Ellembelle district to equip the youth.

He also described Ellembelle district as an oil and gas hub.

"Ellembelle district is now an Oil and Gas Hub and since the district is an Oil and Gas Hub, there is the need for an Oil and Gas University to be established here to train our youth into oil and gas", he said.

His Royal Majesty Awulae Blay IX ended by appealing to President John Dramani Mahama to construct a district hospital at Nkroful in the Ellembelle district to save lives.

"I have been told there is a land for the construction of a district hospital at Nkroful, I will therefore appeal to President John Dramani Mahama to construct a district hospital at Nkroful for us. I will also appeal to him to expand the Aiyinasi market in Ellembelle district. Concerning the Big Push Road Agenda, I will appeal to President John Mahama to consider the Ellembelle district by tackling some of the bad roads in our district".
