With just a few days remaining before Ghana’s highly anticipated 7th December elections, the Ghana Bloggers Association has launched a critical initiative aimed at promoting peace and unity.
The campaign, titled Think Before You Share!, calls on bloggers, journalists, and all internet users to be mindful of the impact their words and shared content have on the nation’s harmony.
The message underscores the essential role of the media in fostering a stable environment, especially during this period of heightened political activity.
The initiative seeks to encourage the sharing of accurate, verified information to prevent the spread of rumors and misinformation, which can create tensions and divisions.
By promoting responsible reporting and content sharing, the Ghana Bloggers Association emphasizes the importance of unity in ensuring a peaceful election.
“We recognize the influential role bloggers and social media users have in shaping public opinion,” President of for the association Andre Mustapha NII Okai Inusah (Attractive Mustapha ) said .
“This campaign encourages everyone to be vigilant about the news they spread. One inaccurate post can fuel fear or even spark violence, but together, we can use our platforms to encourage tolerance and support Ghana’s democratic process.”
The Ghanaian electoral landscape, like in many countries, has witnessed the challenges of disinformation and polarized opinions online. However, with the launch of the Think Before You Share! campaign, the Ghana Bloggers Association hopes to harness the power of social media to unify rather than divide.
Research from various peace-building organizations indicates that misinformation during elections can have lasting consequences, leading to mistrust in political processes and the potential for unrest.
The association has also collaborated with Ghana’s Peace Council and other advocacy groups to amplify their message, reminding internet users of the responsibility they carry in promoting peace.
As Ghanaians prepare to exercise their voting rights, the call for accurate information and thoughtful sharing stands as a timely reminder. The campaign highlights that safeguarding peace and unity is a collective effort — a vision for a Brighter Tomorrow that the association hopes every Ghanaian will support.
Let’s keep Ghana united.
