In a recent interview with Joy TV, Bright Simons stated that more than an NPP triumph, the elections currently point to a possible NDC victory.
In his own words.
"So, based on what we have observed thus far, the lower bound may be more realistic. In the morning, we were projecting 65 to 70 percent, and in the afternoon, we were predicting a range of 62 to 69 percent. Therefore, Ghana has a very clear pattern: anytime turnout is low, the incumbent government is likely to lose. The only exception to this is 1992, when the elections were new and people were afraid of security, so they didn't bother to line up and cast their ballots. Therefore, it's a pretty consistent and clear pattern when you take out 1992 and utilize the remaining polling periods as well.
"The incumbent often loses when the turn out is low, they are many possible explanations, one of them is that in Ghana, because of the extreme degree of polarization, people are very settled in their ways, and when they are disappointed in their party they don't switch or not enough of them switch, so you have swing voters that are too small in numbers to switch so typically the core base of the party, enough of them sit at home and that is the real driver" .
"So if you take that into account, that would explain why In Ghana, low turn out don't favour incumbent. For now, it's pointing to a potential NDC victory more than an NPP victory", Bright Simons said.
